Let's go surfin now, everybody's learning how...

Come on and safari with meeeee!

Ginger and Pebbles are no longer beach virgins, having visited their first beach, Big Wave Bay, yesterday. Big Wave Bay is one of Hong Kong's more beautiful and easily accessible beaches - located in the south side and surrounded by craggy cliffs, HUGE "old money" houses and a private golf course. When you're there, you can be forgiven for thinking you're in some part of Australia or somewhere off Highway 1 in California. It really IS beautiful and worlds apart from Hong Kong's bustling harbour, just 20 minutes drive away.

Big Wave Bay

Unfortunately, FOR DOGS ONLY, that is: all public beaches in Hong Kong are patrolled by lifeguards and dogs aren't allowed on beaches when the lifeguards are on duty during summer months. (Thankfully there are places like Pet World for doing the doggy paddle in summer!) So we waited and waited and when the weather in Hong Kong cooled off a bit and the lifeguards left, we packed a picnic and headed to the beach!
The good thing is, it's not really cold COLD just yet. The temperature is around low 20s Celsius and any European or North American will tell you, it's "balmy" by their standards. Still, even at 20 degrees Celsius, when Hong Kong women start wearing hats, knee-length boots, overcoats and mufflers, you can bet the lifeguards have been sent home!

Running around on Big Wave Bay

Free as a bird!

So here are pics of Ginger and Pebbles cavorting on Big Way Bay. They thoroughly enjoyed running into the surf and then running back up the sand dunes, digging for "treasure" and checking out real pebbles! Generally just having a good time sniffing somewhere new and getting all wet and grubby. And after all that, they got to sample some tuna and cheese pockets and go home for a big chicken wing lunch and long nap. *sigh* All in a dog day's work.
